Tuesday Toddler Board Book Review: Brown Bear, Brown Bear by Bill Martin, Jr.
The board book I am reviewing today is Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?
This is another favorite in our house. This book has alot of fabulous aspects to it. For one: the words rhyme and repeat - which toddlers love. It's such an easy book/song/poem that you'll be able to memorize it within a few readings.
Another thing I like about this book is that its created to build anticipation for moving on to the next page. Little Bear is too young now but one day he'll be able to realize that when it refers to a yellow duck, believe it or not, the yellow duck is on the very next page. It can be alot of fun for kids to imagine and anticipate what is coming up next.
Lastly, the illustrations by Eric Carle are really cool. He actually made the illustrations with tissue paper. You can find lots of his other books (Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? and The Very Hungry Caterpillar) illustrated the same way. The board books don't do his illustrations justice but if you look at his children's picture books, you'll find them really interesting.
