Cradle to Grave Marketing: McDonalds' Toddler Toy

McDonald's has done a great job with offering healthier children's options in their kids' meals.

I like the fact that, should we forget our snack while on a trip, we can run by and pick up some apple slices and milk. I wish they'd offer something besides friend chicken nuggets or a burger, but this is fast food.

However, what I am not impressed with is the marketing to children under three:

This is the little "bath toy" we received with Little Bear's Happy Meal. No wonder children under 2 years of age have been shown to recognize the McDonald's logo.

  1. That is an interesting gifts from McDonald's!

Isn't the idea behind a special toddler toy that it is safer than another toy -- choke-proof at another level?

Gees, don't buy it if you don't like it. I like the idea of changing our daily life to be more child involved rather than toy involved, but that is up to us, not marketers, to accomplish.

  3. Anonymous, thanks for your comment - I appreciate the opportunity to dialogue. You are right, changing daily life to be more child-focused is up to parents. But parents alone cannot protect children from a system that is fundamentally broken. It is sad when marketers are looking for ways to "hook" innocent children on their product. And yes, I don't like I won't continue to buy items such as these.
